iInstall and Windows Vista

As Windows Vista, and later Window 7, becomes more and more used, it also becomes nessecary for iInstall to support these versions of Windows.

In the current version 3.x of iInstall, Windows Vista and Windows 7 are not supported natively there is, however, a workaround.

The workaround is for when you create an installation package contained in a self extracting EXE file. Normally Windows Vista (and 7?) will cause the self extracting EXE to fail as it tries to open it self.

For Windows Vista make sure that the word setup is a part of the EXE file name, that is, it must also be in the name of the script you have saved (the script referes to the file containing the object you have selected to be included in the package).

Another option is to right-click on the EXE file in Windows Vista and select Run As Administrator.

The upcomming version 4 of iInstall will support Windows Vista natively.

What is iInstall?

iInstall allows you to distribute your iSeries software as an easy-to-use PC installation program.

iInstall makes it very easy for your customers to install your software, just as easy as when they install PC software.

Please note, that iInstall has nothing to do with the iInstall.exe program floating on the net that contains a virus. Actually you deside what the installation program is to be called!

For the moment you can read much more on the website at http://iinstall.dk/.
